Hello, I’m Nuvia!

My name is Nuvia Chávez-Téllez (she/her/ella).

As a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC, LPC), I provide individual online mental health counseling for adults in Washington and Oregon.

I am a Mexican-American, a first-generation American, child of immigrants from Mexico. People are of various interpersonal relationships across their lifespans, and my philosophy is to begin, challenge, foster, and maintain a healthy, positive, and thriving relationship with oneself. I love being able to provide safe and affirming places of healing. I desire to help clients discover the best version of themselves and help them to bring balance into their lives. In my free time, I enjoy baking, reading, arts and crafts, and scrapbooking.

About.

I am fluent in Spanish/English and earned a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington in 2014. I am currently licensed to practice in the state of Washington and Oregon. The principles that guide my practice consist of: challenging yourself, getting comfortable with the uncomfortable, improving the relationship with yourself, discovering the best version of your authentic self, and working towards bringing balance into your life.

I approach therapy and the therapeutic space through a lens of trauma-informed care, and utilize techniques from a variety of therapeutic methods to tailor services for each individual client. Therapeutic methods include, and are not limited to, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Compassion Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment. Interventions include, and are not limited to, behavioral activation, collaborative problem solving, expressive arts, parent management/education, parts work, psychoeducation, solution-focused, and psychodynamic interventions to support clients’ mental, physical, and/or spiritual well-being.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I have worked with a diverse population by providing individual, family, and group therapy both in Spanish and English to children, adolescents, and adults. My past work experience includes working with families and youth in the foster care system, in residential treatment settings, in culturally specific community mental health settings, as well as an alternative high school and a school-based health center.

I have a background working with clients on a variety of concerns and life experiences, not limited to, adverse childhood experiences, anger management, coping skills, educational and occupational problems, grief and loss, identity development, inner child healing, life balance, life transitions, navigating cultural changes, passive communication/unhealthy relationships, relational problems, religious trauma, self-empowerment, self-esteem, sexual abuse/survivors of trauma, situational changes, stress, and wellness.
